Jere Dan Crews 60, died of a heart attack in Bakersfield, CA on Nov. 9, 2000. He was born on April 7, 1940 in Ardmore, OK to Floyd E. Wells and Martha Norma Crews/Wells. When he was 2 years old, his parents divorced and his mother took him to her parents, who ultimately raised him. After high school, Jere enlisted in the Marine Corp and served in VietNam, transferring to the Marine Corp reserves after active duty. In 1966 while working for Tooke Engineering in Wyoming, he met the love of his life, Alice Raye Williams. They were married on Feb. 1, 1967 and 3 children were born to their union, Jere Dan Jr., Mary Ruth, and Dawn Raye. His job with Tooke kept him away from home for long periods, so he went to work as a tanker driver for Dixon Bros. Tragically, Alice was killed in 1972 so Jere took his young children and moved back to Oklahoma. He continued to drive truck and the last few years of his life, he made his home in TN.
Jere loved fast cars and in later years, motorcycles, and was happiest when tinkering with one. Even though life wasn't particularly kind to him, he was an upbeat person who loved to make people laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was tough, but he was also kind and caring and loved his children dearly. He is sorely missed by everyone who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father Floyd Wells, his wife Alice, and his daughter Dawn Raye. Survivors include his children; Jere Dan Jr. of Missouri, daughter Mary Ruth Davis of Texas, stepdaughter Autumn Kiser of Wyoming, sister DeAnn Wells Deutsch, stepmother Bobbie Wells of CA, and numerous other relatives. He is also survived by very special friends, Sue and Roger Manning of Tennessee.
