Martha Jane Van Allen Robertson, Oct. 26, 1910 - Sept. 23, 2006. Martha Jane "Mattie" Van Allen Robertson, 95, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, in Santa Maria, Calif., where she was living. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at Lewis Funeral Chapel, 4817 Kelley Highway, Fort Smith, with Pastor Don Hall officiating. Family visitation will be from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30; friends are also invited to visit on Friday.Martha Jane was born to Wayne and Ivah Van Allen. She married Robert Lee Robertson in 1925, and they moved to Fort Smith in 1929. Mr. Robertson worked at Eads Bros. Furniture, the scissors factory and Harding Glass Co. in Fort Smith. Martha was a homemaker most of her life and lived in Fort Smith for 73 years.

The Robertsons belonged to Calvary Baptist Church, Oak Grove Baptist Church, Trinity Baptist, Kelley Height Baptist, Spradling Baptist, Windsor Park Baptist and Northside Baptist, all in Fort Smith. They were founding members of some of these churches. Mrs. Robertson worked in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Girls Auxiliary and Women's Missionary Union. Mayor Ray Baker declared Oct. 26, 2000, as Martha Robertson Day in Fort Smith in honor of her 90th birthday.

Martha lived in Waco from 2001 to 2004, and was a member of Highland Baptist Church. She was an unselfish, giving wife, mother and grandmother, who dearly loved her family. She loved to read her Bible and to sew, and she made many garments for her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee; son, Donald Richard Robertson; and grandsons, Jimmie Robertson, Jr. and Williams Lawson.

Survivors include son, Jimmie Lee Robertson and wife, Jean, of Vimy Ridge, Ark.; daughters, Doris Jean Wright and husband, Bob, of Santa Maria, Calif., Martha Jane Lawson, of California, Victoria Elizabeth Kendig and husband, Loren, of Waco; brother, Damon Van Allen and wife, Lola Mae, of California; sister, Pauline Wiley, of California; grandsons, David Robertson, Donald Robertson, Jr., Scott Price, Robert Wright, Jackie Lawson, Jr. and Brian Kendig; granddaughters, Cindy Robertson Kinsey, Carol Robertson, Lyn Price, Laura Wright Nadler, Alicia Lawson Kness and Julie Kendig Lawrence; and 30 great-grandchildren.
