DEATH CLAIMS MOTHER OF MRS. A.T. SCOVILL IN HOSPITAL AT DENVER

Mrs. A.T. Scovill of 1111 Seventh Avenue received word of the passing of her mother, the late Elizabeth Waters, in a Denver hospital last Sunday night. The body is being brought by train to Savanna where it is expected to arrive Thursday at 11 a.m. and will be taken overland from Savanna to Lanark, and the internment will be in the family lot in the Lanark Cemetery. There will be a graveside service at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. Waters lived in Lanark but moved from there 50 years ago. She was a resident of Dixon for 25 years. In late years she has made her home with her two daughters, Mrs. A.T. Scovill in Sterling and Mrs. C.P. Reed in Denver, Colorado. The latter recently moved to San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. Waters was born February 10, 1855, daughter of Martin and Mary Steinmann, at Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania. When she was but six months old, her parents moved to a farm near Lanark in what was then called Cherry Grove. Later her father built a large brick home one mile north of Lanark, on what is now known as the Hawk farm. Here she grew up and attended the Lanark School. When a young woman, she joined the Christian church of which she was a faithful member until she moved away 50 years ago.

On October 17, 1878, she was united in marriage with Josiah H. Waters, son of Reuben and Mary Waters. Three children were born of their union: Eva May, who passed away at the age of five years, Mrs. A.T. (E. Josephine) Scovill, Sterling, and Mrs. C.P. (Jessie M.) Reid, now a resident of San Antonio, Texas. Her husband passed away April 23, 1883. Her life since that time was devoted to her daughters with every thought for them and their families.

Two brothers, Charles A. of Chicago and Victor of Denver, Colorado survive, also eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
