Robert W. Taylor, 88, passed away on Saturday, the 26th day of May, 2012, at his residence. A native of Spencer County, Kentucky, he was the eighth of ten children born to the late James Pruitt and Alma Goodwin Taylor. He grew up in Shelby County and graduated from Bagdad High School, where he played on the basketball team. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U. S. Navy as a radarman aboard the USS Adams and the USS Oracle. After the War, he began his career with the Bell Telephone System, retiring after thirty-eight years of service. A member of First Christian Church, his memberships and former memberships also included the Shelbyville Kiwanis Club, Howard Lodge No. 15 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Governor Isaac Shelby Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, as well as Rotary Clubs and Lions Clubs in various cities in Kentucky where he formerly lived and worked.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard G. Taylor, Sr., James B. Taylor, and Rodney M. Taylor; and his sisters, Martha Ailene Knudsen, Mary T. Hall, Lois T. Arnold, Elizabeth Cook, and Mildred Frandsen.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor B. Taylor; his son, James Richard Taylor of Great Falls, Virginia; his daughter, Susan Lee Taylor of Nashville, Tennessee; his sister, Rogenia E. Wilson of Paola, Kansas; his grandsons, James Brian Taylor of Annapolis, Maryland, and Robert Christopher Taylor of Longmont, Colorado; his sister-in-law, Nancye W. Taylor of Shelbyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, the 30th day of May, 2012, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville with Dr. Fred T. Moffatt, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Bagdad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M., until 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, at Hall-Taylor. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hosparus.
