SP4 Donald L. Evans was a Heavy Vehicle Driver serving with the 379th Transportation Company. On July 3, 1971, SP4 Evans was on convoy duty when his unit spent the night at a fire base in Bien Hoa Province, RVN. Reportedly, Evans scaled a water tower on the base to pass the night, the idea being the higher up you got, the less you were bothered by the mosquitos. Sometime during the night Evans fell from the structure and died. His body was found the following morning. The remains were flown to a Graves Registration facility in Saigon. Sadly, the accident occurred when Evans was within a few weeks of returning home from Vietnam. Two days later, a memorial service was conducted in his honor by the battalion chaplain.
