The oldest resident of Jefferson City in the person of Mrs. Martha Rose died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. Jones at 212 Madison street, aged 87 years.

Mrs. Rose came to Jefferson City with her parents as a child 82 years ago. When they removed to the city there were just five houses in the city and it was short; after the government laid out the site of the Capital. She was born in Tennessee and was married in Jefferson City to Peter Rose at the age of fourteen years. Her husband died 25 years ago and since that time Mrs. Rose has made her home with the various children. She was the mother of seventeen children, six of whom are still living. They are W. Jeff Rose, Mrs. Bates Jones, Mrs. George Opel of Jefferson City, Mrs. Rhoda Jones of Henley, G.W. Rose of Arkansas, and Arthur Reed of Kansas City. She had 92 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren living.

Mrs. Rose joined the Baptist church about 50 years ago and she has since been a consistent member. The funeral will take place from the Baptist church this morning at 11 o'clock. The body will be taken to the Bethel cemetery near Hickory Hill for burial.
