" Belinda C. Morlan, was born in Casey County,Kentucky, October 28, 1818, and departed this life February 7, 1901. She was therefore 82 years 3 months and 10 days of age.

She was the oldest of a family of eleven children, seven of whom are now living. While she was quite young, her parents William and Abigail Jones removed to Washington County Indiana, and soon afterwards Putnam County, Indiana, where she passed the remainder of her early life. Was married to Henry Morlan August 11, 1836, came to Appanoose county Iowa, in 1852, where he died November 22, 1861, since which time she has remained a widow.

To them were born five children four of which were present to administer to her wants during her sickness, and now to mourn the loss of a loving mother. Louisa Palmyra died when young, N.J. Morlan, W.E.L. Morlan, Mrs. Jane Butler and Mrs. Mary Owen survive her besides a host of other relatives. She had thirty-two grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren.

She was a believer in the Primitive Baptist doctrine of religion, expressing her hope in Christ when 15-years old. Her whole life was marked by that of a true Christian character; a kind and loving mother, a devoted wife, and a good neighbor. Grandmother, as she was commonly called was known far and wide, and the great concourse of friends and relatives who visited her sick room only proved how sadly she will be missed from among us.

Her sickness was of short duration. She had a sudden attack of la grippe, with partial paralysis on Saturday. Failing very fast her children and other friends were summoned, and every thing loving hands could do was done for the sufferer, but she could not abide with us longer, and on Thursday morning the Lord called her spirit home.

The funeral was conducted by Elder Sawin, of Moulton, after which the remains were laid to rest in what is known as Jones cemetery. "
