Aretta 'Bonnie' Brown, 87, Muscatine, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at Lutheran Homes. Bishop David Shepard will officiate the services. Casket bearers are Darren Chapman, Robert Phillips, Duane Richardson, Dannie Laughead, Stuart Cordrey and Michael Phillips. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine. After the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held in the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brown was born July 30, 1917, in Volga, S.D., the daughter of William W. and Gertrude M Brawner Merrill. She married Cleo H. Brown Nov. 27, 1937, in Kahoka, Mo.
She worked in homecare and companionship for the elderly for 26 years. She also worked at the Hershey Convalescent Center for eight years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Muscatine, and the Eagles. She dearly enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Muscatine Towers and taking care of her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith E. Chapman of Muscatine; a son, Richard C. Brown of Garden Grove, Calif.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harlen 'Chuck' Merrill and wife Gertrude of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, a daughter, Beverly Jean Brown; a brother, Irum Merrill; and a sister, Maxine Leedy.
