Maria Christina Charlotta Teresia Broman was born in Horn, Sweden to Clara Christine Nilsdotter & Carl Oskar Broman. Maria came with her family to Chicago when she was 4 years old. In 1899, at age 22, she married Alfred Westberg. (In 1905 Mary's sister, Elizabeth married Fred's brother, William.) Maria and Fred had three daughters - Linda, who died at age 2, Alice, and Verna. In 1909, the year after Verna's birth, Maria's young husband died.
In 1910 Maria lived with her daughters (Alice 4 and Verna 1) in a large household headed by her mother, Clara and including her youngest sister, Svea, her brother-in-law, William and William's 3 year old daughter, Wilma. (In 1907 Maria's sister, Elizabeth had died.) In 1920 and 1930, the same household was still in place. The cousins had been raised as sisters. Maria died at age 62.
