Sam died at the age of 87. Forty years ago they had a bad car accident. Sam became crippled and had internal injuries. His hip was broken and they had to have it replaced twice, but the bones wouldn't except the transplant. He lived on peanut butter and Jelly for at least 27 years of his life. Grace White took over as bread winner for the family at Gates Rubber Company. Grace retired at 65 and worked the grave yard shift so she could be home with grandpa during the day. Sometimes she would have as little as 2 hours asleep. When she wasn't doing housework or shopping she was entertaining grandpa Carter with dominoes, or Canasta. On weekends she would cook for the entire family. Grandma was a beautiful loving mother. Grandma Grace used to give grandpa Sam is insulin shots for his diabetes. Grandma died at the age of 93. Grandma outlived two sons Clarence Clyde, who was age 70, and Tom 56. grandma also had a great shoulder to lean on. Written by Shirley, Graces granddaughter.
