Deceased Name: Services set for Mildred Lillian Belden
Services for Mildred Lillian Belden, a former Sherman educator and longtime federal employee, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Sherman. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.
Ms. Belden died Friday at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman of injuries suffered in a recent fall. She was 91.
Ms. Belden, a Sherman native, received a bachelor's degree in education from Austin College in 1933. She taught elementary school in the Grayson County town of Sadler for one year before joining the Sherman Independent School District, where she taught fourth grade for 13 years.
Ms. Belden later went to work as a secretary for several federal agencies. She worked with the Army, Department of Labor, Veterans Administration and the Department of Agriculture, before retiring in 1973.
Ms. Belden was affiliated with many organizations, including the Grayson County Historical Society, American Red Cross, Red River Historical Museum, American Association of University Women and Sherman Musical Arts Inc. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Margaret Belden Harvey of Denison and Gladice Belden and Dorothy Belden, both of Sherman.
