He was born Dec. 20, 1963, in Springfield, Ill., to Louis and Hilda (Wacker) Knief, and had lived in Valparaiso for 11 months, coming from Wood River, Neb. A 1986 graduate of Concordia University of River Forest, Ill,. Rev. Knief attended Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, served a one-year vicarage at Christ Lutheran Church in Little Rock, Ark., was a pastor of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, serving Lutheran churches in Rushin, Upland, and Wood River, Neb. An active participant in the Nebraska Lutherans for Confessional Studies, he attended St. Michael Lutheran Church in Hebron, Ind. And was a security officer at South Lake Mall. On July 16, 1988, in Valparaiso, he married Elizabeth Hallberg, who survives.
