Vocalist. Founding member and first tenor of the musical group The Spaniels. The son of a minister, his association with music began when he co-formed a singing group with classmates at Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana. Led by James "Pookie" Hudson, they called themselves Pookie Hudson and the Hudsonaires and debuted at the school Christmas concert in 1952. Following graduation, the ensemble remained intact and furthered their performance experience at local churches and talent shows, featuring a song penned by Hudson titled "Baby It's You." They caught the attention of a small record company and after the score was recorded, popularity resulted as it received air time in the Chicago-area. They moved onto the much larger Chance label and in 1954, they achieved greater commercial success with their signature hit "Goodnight Sweetheart Goodnight," which earned a number five placing on the R&B Charts. To date, the song remains a popular selection of the oldies music genre. Not long after, Warren was drafted into the United States Army and following his discharge, he resumed his place within their lineup, as they secured the distinction of appearing several times at the Apollo Theater. Two years after their final song "I Know" (1960) reached the charts, Warren left the group to work for a lengthy time in the steel industry. In 1976, he was ordained a minister. The Spaniels were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005.
