BAY CITY - Three persons were killed and one was injured Saturday afternoon when two cars collided headon in the middle lane of a three-lane highway.
The dead are Benjamin Gifford, 23, of Rose City, George Van Wormer, 41, of West Branch, and Harmon W. Persons, 53, of Bay City.
According to State Policeman James Berardo, Gifford pulled out of the line of traffic to pass another car and met Person's car headon.
Van Wormer and his brother Oscar, 23, were passengers in Gifford's auto. Oscar suffered a compound fracture of his left leg and other injuries, Bernardo said. [MDP Published in the "Detroit Free Press," Sunday, February 23, 1947, Page 4.] (Note the accident occured on Highway US23.)
He married Marion "Mae" C Barnier on 6 March 1905 in Bay City, Michigan.
