Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served during the Civil War first as Major of the 9th Pennsylvania Reserves, then as Colonel and commander of the 6th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery/212th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. The unit was disbanded on June 17, 1865 and on September 28, 1865, he was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers "for meritorious conduct during the war". (bio by: Chuck Hensel)
