The earliest confirmed record of Emma is her marriage to George Henry Messmer Jr on April 9th, 1888 in New Orleans. George was the son of a Swiss immigrant from St Gallen, Switzerland. There is considerable information present on her marriage records. It notates that Emma was a widow when she married George, she was originally married to a man named "W. M. Wagner", whom presumably died. Emma was recorded as being 28 years old and George 27 by the time of their marriage.
The marriage records also note the name of Emma's parents as "Moses D Morris" and "Frances S Simon" as far as can be determined from the handwriting.

So they were presumably separated - though not divorced and Emma was raising the children in her home. There was some friction in the family as one of her daughters would tell their own children that their grandma Emma "had moved back to Welles, France", though this was untrue.
On both Census documents the worker writes Emma's father as being from Germany and her mother from France, however census takers often got this wrong.
Emma died at 11:41pm on October 12th, 1912. The death record has very poor handwriting but is linked to some trauma from a "nail in the foot". A brief obituary noted on this profile mentions her being a "native of Lake Charles". She was 52 years old at the time of her death.
