U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, World War II

Duane J.Arrowsmith
~Grandpa Duey

On February 3, 2007, Duey died of sudden heart failure at 82, early in the morning at St. Mark's Hospital. Duey was born on June 17, 1925 to James and Jessie Burt Arrowsmith in Provo, Utah. He attended BYU and the University of Utah, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard in WW II. After it became obvious that he could sell ice to Eskimos, he started Arrowsmith West Inc. When he retired from sales, he loved to spend time at his cabin in Midway, where he volunteered as a marshal at Wasatch golf course for 13 years. For the last few summers, he has been perfecting his dahlias and tomatoes, to the delight of the neighborhood.

Duey married Charlene Hopkins in 1949, and they began their 57-year romance together. (He never forgot her birthday or their anniversary.) He is survived by Charlene; his two daughters, Toni (Scott) Sharp and Debra Jo (Jeffrey) Martin; his grandchildren Amanda (Aaron) Johnson, Jessie Sharp; and Stephanie, Samantha and Rhett Martin. And last but not least, he is survived by his little dog Kimi, who will miss their twice-daily walks up and down Melbourne Street.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services.
