Mrs. Edwin Sloan, 83, died the1
result of injuries sustained, and
Mr. Sloan, 81, is hospitalized
with multiple injuries, the result
of a car accident which
happened on Highway No. 2,
west of Bloomfield, Monday afternoon
at about 1:30 p.m.
The tragic accident happened
as Mr. and Mrs. Sloan were
driving to Bloomfield from their
home in Moulton. They had
reached a point just east of the
Davis County Fairgrounds when
the car went out of control on
a corner. The car left the highway
and rolled over.
Mrs. Sloan's death was attributed
to multiple head and facial
injuries, a fractured pelvis,
and shock. She apparently was
thrown against the windshield
and dashboard of the 1950 Ford.
Her husband, Edwin Sloan,
driver of the car, is reported to
be in satisfactory condition at
the Davis County Hospital where
he is being treated for fractured
ribs, bruises and cuts.
Mrs. Sloan was the daughter
of John and Susan Fleming and
was born in Davis county on
Feb. 5, 1882 where she resided
most of her life. She was reared
and educated in Davis county
schools and attended Southern
Iowa Normal in Bloomfield.
Prior to her marriage to Edwin
G. Sloan on Dec. 26, 1908, she
had taught school.
Survivors include the widower,,
a son, James H. of Milford,
Utah; five grandchildren; two
sisters, Miss Susan Fleming and
Mrs. Austa Hunter of Ottumwa;
and two brothers, Ray Fleming
and Gilford Fleming, both of
Bloomfield. She was preceded
in death by an infant son and
a grandson.
Funeral services were held
y e s t e r d a y (Wednesday) in
Bloomfield with Rev. Harold
Jones of the Moulton Methodist
Church officiating. Burial was
made in Drakesville cemetery.
