When the Civil War started, Loius enlisted as a Private in Company A, 5th Infantry Regiment Georgia on the 11th of May 1861. Serving through the war until his regiment mustered out on the 26th of April 1865.
After the war, Louis applied for a Presidential Pardon, so he could study law and became an attorney. He received the pardon and later became the County Solicitor for Richmond County, Georgia.
Louis was married to the former Miss Margaret Edwina Barrett of Augusta.
Louis Alexander Dugas departed this life on the 12th of October 1885. He was buried beside his brother, Juriah Harris Dugas.
