SPRINGHILL, LA - Leo Layssard, 79 of Springhill, Louisiana died April 1, 2008 in a automobile accident in Sarepta, Louisiana.

He was born December 5, 1928 in Boyce, Louisiana to the late Walter and Harriet (Hillman) Layssard. Leo retired from International Paper Pulp Mill after 37 years and was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, Army, and the National Guard. Leo enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, arrowhead, coin, and bottle collecting. He loved his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter R. Layssard, Brown Layssard and twin brother, Leon Layssard; sister, Martha Lou Marien.

Survivors are his son, James Walter Layssard and wife Janey of Alice, Texas; daughter, Teresa Layssard Thomason and husband Tim of Alexandria, Louisiana; sons, Eric Lynn Layssard and wife Patricia Ann of Taylor, Arkansas, Chris Leon Layssard and wife Diana of Noble, Louisiana; brother, Charles R. Layssard and wife Madie of Lena, Louisiana; sister, Ruby Brickner and husband Harold of Olympia, Washington; wife of 55 years, Helen Carraway Layssard of Springhill, Louisiana; grandsons, Jentry Thomason, Jody Thomason, Scott Layssard; granddaughters, Jill Abernethy, Jennifer Thomason, Jessica Layssard, Joy Thomason, Morgan Layssard; great grandchildren, Jonah Thomason, Elizabeth Thomason, Cara Thomason; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will Friday, April 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Lewis Chapel with Dr. Scott Teutsch assisted by Bro. James Taylor. Burial will follow at Springhill City Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Springhill, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Barry Nehls, Scott Miller, Anthony Robinson, Jentry Thomason, Jody Thomason, James Evans, Marty Morgan, Paul Modisette, and Walter Layssard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission.
