Melvin was a son of the late George William Garlitz and Annie Missouri (Robison) Garlitz. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen (Minnick) Garlitz; his second wife, Evelyn (Jolley) Garlitz; three sisters, Ida Hetz, Elnora Minnick, and Cordelia Durst; and two brothers, Burman Garlitz and Francis Garlitz.
He was retired from Kaiser Refractories, Zihlman, as a brick maker after 35 years of service.
He is survived by one daughter; two sons; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister.
