Actor. His uneven and rough facial features led him to be typecast in offbeat and villainous supporting roles. The Midwestern native (who sometime went by the name Eric Rush), made an early mark on television with his performance as Willie the talking dummy in a 1962 episode of the series "The Twilight Zone" titled "The Dummy". From that point on, he was busy appearing in such popular programs as "Ben Casey", "The Wild, Wild West", "I Spy" and "Police Woman", among many others. He earned recurring roles in the series "Battlestar Galactica" (1978 to 1979, as Doctor Salik), "Barney Miller" (1981 to 1982, as Lieutenant Ben Scanlon) and "What a Country" (1986 to 1987, as Laslo Gabov). For movie audiences, Murdock may be best remembered for playing God in "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" (1989). In addition, he had an extensive stage career which included his originating of the part of Judge Julius Hoffman in the production of "The Chicago Conspiracy Trial" (1979). He died from cancer.
