LAHRS JR. Herman John Lahrs Jr., was born May 23, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa to Herman and Charlette Lahrs. He passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 at home with his family at his side. Herman grew up and worked on the family farm in Dakota City, Nebraska until 1945 when he enlisted into the United States Air Force. Herman was sent to San Antonio, Texas to do his basics training. While serving 28 years in the Air Force he was stationed at many bases around the world and here in the United States and one of those bases was here in Mobile at Brookley Field. Herman was not in Mobile long before he fell deeply in love with Marie Earline Yukers. Herman and Earline married January 10, 1951 and was the first couple to be married in St. Monica's Church. They were married 57 years and had 3 children.
The family returned to Mobile in 1968 while Herman was in Vietnam. Herman retired from the Air Force after returning safely home from Vietnam. He went to work for Alabama Dry Dock for the next 20 years. Shortly after retiring from the second time Herman went back to work for a couple of security companies. Herman is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Charlette Lahrs; his wife of 57 years, Marie Earline Yukers Larhrs; 3 brothers, Kenneth, William and Arnold Lahrs; 2 sisters, Irene and Le Verne Lahrs.
