Mrs. Mary Jane Murphy, long-time resident of Douglas, died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. R. L. Swan, Monday afternoon following a long illness. Mrs. Murphy had been a resident of Douglas for forty-two years. She was the daughter of James and Rebecca Crosby. In 1870 she was married to James MacAllister, who became a scout in the government service and was killed by Indians in 1885. Two children were born to them. A son, Verne, died in his sixteenth year; a daughter, Mrs. H. P. Allen of Douglas survives. Surviving also are two sisters, Mrs. Nell Mowers of Genoa, Ill., and Mrs. Ella J. Stewart of Kingston, Ill.
