Burial with military honors was held 10 a.m., Monday, April 30, in the Clinton City Cemetery.
Mr. Gainey, born in Sampson County and was the son of the late Marshall Avery Gainey and Mary Catherine Pope Gainey. He was predeceased by his wife, Annie Kate Owens Gainey and numerous brothers and sisters. Mr. Gainey retired with 33 years of service as captain with the Clinton Police Department and was also an Army WWII veteran.
