Edwards A. Potwine, Jr., 74, of Springfield Rd., Somers, husband of the late Lucile (Carpenter) Potwine, died Tuesday, (March 5, 2002) at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Born in Hartford, Edwards was a resident of Somers since 1960. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Merchant Marines for 14 years. He later was employed as a corrections officer for the State of Connecticut Dept. of Corrections for 22 years retiring in 1982. Edwards was also a member of the Somers Congregational Church and a member of the Somers Senior Citizens. He is survived by two sons, Arthur Potwine and his wife Donna of Harwinton, and Roger Potwine and his wife Linda of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren Zachary and Luke Potwine. A funeral service for Edwards will be held Friday, March 8, 11 a.m., at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Rt. 190, Somers. Committal services will follow with Military Honors at Somers Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edwards' memory may be made to the Somers Congregational Church, 599 Main St., Box 295, Somers, CT 06071 or to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450-1004.
