LEWISTOWN - Charles H. 'Rawhide' Brannon, 86, of Kish Apartments, 196 S. Main St., Lewistown, died at 6:54 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital.

Born Dec. 6, 1922, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late John and Mary Brannon. His wife, Marjorie K. (Jordan) Brannon, preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 1986.

Surviving is a daughter, Lynda Sue Ostien and husband David, of North Apollo.

Also surviving are: a sister, Helen Cox, of McAlisterville; grandchildren, Christopher Charles Ostien and wife Jenny, of Morgantown, W. Va., and Jennifer Ostien Baum and husband Ryan, of Apollo and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Erin and Julia Baum, Alex Brannon Ostien and Charles' good friend, Lila Warner.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Howard Brannon Jr.; a brother, John and sisters, Elsie, Ethel and Evelyn.

He was a 1940 graduate of Lewistown High School.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in Japan.

He was a machinist for Standard Steel for 35 years.

He was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, and a former member of Lewistown Country Club. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.

He loved his scanner, Nittany Lions, his church family and his grandchildren and great - grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Christina Trimble officiating. Military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 7011. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 604 Electric Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Arrangements are under the care of Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
