CAMBRIDGE — Harriet Lydia Peabody, 67, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Glens Falls Hospital with her loving husband, Henry B. Peabody, by her side.

Born Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1944, in Hoosick Falls, she was the daughter of Donald S. and Lydia Quackenbush Hewitt.

The family lived in Petersburg and Harriet received her education in Hoosick Falls, graduating from Hoosick Falls High School, Class of 1962. She attended Troy Beauty Academy before marrying Henry on June 13, 1964 and moving with him to Cambridge.

As a farmer's wife, she assisted her husband with the many responsibilities of running the farm. Along with raising her family, she was the main bookkeeper and financial person of the operation. When the grandchildren arrived, she became the official baby sitter, always there at a moment's notice.

In her younger years, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg, a member of the Hoosic Grange and a great square dancer.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, going to bingo and Friday night card playing with her husband and friends. She was a wonderful grandmother and loved the time she spent with her grandchildren.

A son, William Henry Peabody, and two siblings, Helen Brown and Donald S. Hewitt Jr., predecease her.

Along with her devoted husband of 47 years, she is survived by four children, Anna Schworm and her husband, James of Stillwater, Charles Henry Peabody of Cambridge, John Henry Peabody and his wife, Ruth of Buskirk and Cindy Casavant and her husband, Larry of North Hoosick; a brother, David Hewitt and his wife, Sandy of Petersburg; a brother-in-law, Donald Brown of Petersburg; a sister-in-law, Carol Peabody of White Creek; a brother-in-law, Charles Peabody of Chula Vista, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, April 29, 2012, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 W. Main St., Cambridge.

Harriet will be buried at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburg at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012.
