Major General Teddy Sanford was one of the original members of the 82nd Airborne Division and served with the unit throughout World War II. He fought in Sicily, Italy, France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. He was commander of the division rear guard during the Battle of the Bulge. He made glider landings in Normandy and Holland. Awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. Served a total of 44 years and commanded the 504th Airborne Infantry Regiment; the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team; the 7th Infantry Division and the XIX Army Corps. Married Cora Kelley on 21 February 1931. Two children, Teddy H. Sanford, Jr. (b. 1942) and Thomas Kelley Sanford (b. 1947).
