I am called upon this morning to perform an act, of all others, the most unpleasant to me. That is to tell you that your son Thomas of my company is dead! he died on the 20th ___, after a ______illness in the Regimental Hospital of Typhoid fever.
My dear sir I deply symphize with you in your brevement. you have lost a son._ I have lost a friend and fellow soldier. and if I say but litle on your ___ and sorrow. assure yourself it is not because I am ________ to their
_____ but because I fear to make your wounded and sorrowing heart lest I should unneccessarly make it bleed afresh.
If my poor prayers may ____ ____ they are not nor shall be wanting on your behalf.
May he who was himself "A man of sorrows tempted in all fronts like as are " ______ and give you comfort.
The Chaplin of our regiment talked with Thomas a few days before he died. he then expressed a willingness to ______ praye to God to ______ his spirit.
I think he went with a hope of immorta___ and _______ at Gods right hand.
May you and I meet Thomas in that better land where sorrow and sickness is known and felt no more!
I ________ all necessary papers on the 21st ___ Thomas had no clothes that was worth anything ___ we buried him ___. We put him away very nicely and marked the spot
