Info. from Thomas J. Wheeler: "Abraham Lehew died in a train accident at or near San Lucas, Ca. His daughter witnessed this terrible accident which happened after he had put her and her children on the train to return to Iowa. She tried to get off the train after it had started moving. He was buried in San Lucas beside his grandson, William Abraham Wheeler who died in 1894.
Abraham W. Lehew was in Sacramento, Ca. in 1883. We have a picture that was taken in a Sacramento, Ca. studio, most likely around this time. In 1889, Abraham W. Lehew was listed in a Mo. Co., California directory as a farmer. His daughter, Phebe, and family visited him in San Lucas and lived in the area for a time in the 1890's. The Monterey Great Register of Voters for 1896 lists him as a resident of San Lucas (this was May, 1896), just before he was killed..The registration record includes a personal description. Abraham W. Lehew was a farmer, age 65, 5' 10" tall, light complexion, blue eyes, gray hair, with a scar at the corner of his right eye."
