Richard "Dick" VanSandt, 68, of Niles, died Sunday, April 15, 2012.

Dick's life began Jan. 9, 1944, in Niles, Mich. He spent his lifetime in Niles working, raising his family, fishing and faithfully cheering on Jeff Gordon. In 1965, he met the love of his life, Carol, and they married in 1967. Dick's loving family includes: four children, Ronnie Scoggin, Robert (Nikki) VanSandt Sr., Brandon (Katie) VanSandt, and Thomas Quick; five grandchildren, Amanda (Ty) Vance, Rachel Scoggin, Robert VanSandt Jr., Cael VanSandt, and Kaegan VanSandt; a great-grandchild, Ezra Vance; seven siblings, Jack Sallee, Cecil (Pat) Sallee, William Sallee, Taylor (Doris) Sallee, Rex (Linda) VanSandt, Vernon (Beverly) VanSandt and James Sinder; and several nieces and nephews.

His wife, Carol; a son, Dennis VanSandt; parents, Taylor VanSandt and Neva (Iliff) Loselvski; and two brothers, Eugene and Gerald Sallee, precede Dick in death.

Dick will be laid to rest during a graveside service at Highland Cemetery in South Bend today at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home or Dick's family.

Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet is assisting Dick's family with arrangements.
