Ellen Lou Coleman, 88, of Springfield, passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at St. John's Hospice.

Ellen was born March 8, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of James and Pauline Perry Brennan. She married Robert P. Coleman, Jr. on December 9, 1961 in Springfield. He preceded her in death.

Ellen was a 1942 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and was a homemaker. Her greatest accomplishment in life was raising her 10 children. Ellen had also owned and operated Temptations Arts and Crafts Store, worked at Winch's Flower Shop, Bergner's, The Vogue Dress Shop. She loved to garden and enjoyed painting, crafts, sewing, and reading, especially the Bible. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In her younger years, just for fun, she liked to tap dance.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Francis Conway; three sons, Robert Coleman III, Timothy A. Boggs and James P. Boggs; two brothers, Francis P. Conway III and James Brennan; and one sister, Alice "Janie" Lokaitis.

She is survived by her sons, Mark (wife, Dianna) Boggs of Glenarm, Kevin Boggs of Springfield, Keith Boggs of Springfield, Joseph (wife, Debbie) Boggs of Riverton, and David Coleman of Florida; daughters, Penelope "Penny" (husband, Maurice) Mayer of California and Paula (husband, David) Poppenhouse of Chatham; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Paul (wife, Mary Lou) Brennan of Springfield, Donna (husband, Bill) Hickerson of Springfield, Joseph Conway of Washington, DC, Thomas (wife, Mary) Conway of Springfield, and Kathleen (husband, Gene) Hagerman of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Interment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
