Gus G. Sarris
Gus G. Sarris, 85, St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Gus was born on November 24, 1926, in Trenton, Mo., to George and Tasia (Jones) Sarris. When he was four years old, his family moved to St. Joseph, where the spent the remainder of his life. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Northeast State Teacher's College in Kirksville, Mo.
An educator and coach for 31 years at Stewartsville, Mo., and 28 years at Central High School, he was an assistant football coach and head baseball coach. Mr. Sarris retired in 1982. He served several teams on the Missouri High School Association Baseball Advisory Committee.
During WW II, he served with the US Army. He was a member of American Legion Post #359 and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Sarris; and sister, Mary Neufeldt.
Gus married Rita Cianciolo in 1953, in St. Joseph. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his son, George Sarris, Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughters, Christina Marriott and Rebecca Sarris-Coker, both of St. Joseph; one brother, Jack Sarris, St. Louis, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Jay Marriott, Hollister, Mo. and Taira Marriott and Breaunna Vaughn, both of St. Joseph.
Graveside Memorial Service and military honors: 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation at the Chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.
