Born in Seymour, Texas on November 28, 1932, Irene was a kind, gentle and loving Mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will always be remembered for her optimism, joyful spirit, dignity, elegance and courage.
She was a beautiful, intelligent, generous lady who never met a stranger and modeled the "Golden Rule". She was a leader, believed the best about people and had a great sense of humor. She loved and cherished her family and enjoyed creating a beautiful home and garden. Irene always made a positive difference in the lives of others and provided a strong model for her children.
During the early years of her career, Irene was a successful politician. She was Chief Deputy in the County and District's Clerk's office in Archer County, Texas. When the County and District Clerk resigned, the Commissioner's Court asked Irene to completer the term, winning out over 16 men for the unexpired term. In 1965, she ran for County and District Clerk, culminating in a landslide victory, a major achievement for a married woman of that era. Her campaigning technique was to shake hands with every registered voter in the District and she loved the job. Irene ran for office when women were rare in the political arena and she always believed in blazing your own trail.
Irene was a Deaconess and financial officer in the First Christian Church in Archer City, Texas. She was also a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury, Tx and an associate member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas. She was an avid volunteer in the Opera Guild and LLGMA Auxillary. She delivered welcome packages to newcomers to Granbury from 1990 to 1998. She was a charter member of the DCBE Women's Club and a member of the DCBE Ladies Golf Association.
She loved golf, gardening, family gatherings and being a homemaker(primarily taking care of her husband, Casey). Irene was a model until age 76, appearing in many style shows in Ft. Worth and Granbury. She also enjoyed many genres of music. Late in life, she met the love of her life, Coyle Case. What soul mates they were! She missed him dearly after he passed.
She is survived by her daughters, Kerri Berend, Henrietta, TX and Kim Stanford, Austin, TX; son, Doug Stanford, Ingleside, TX and her brother Welsy Ermis, Edmond, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Coyle Case, brothers, Jerome, August, and Eugene Ermis; and sisters, Henrietta Paviska andLily Hudnell.
God saw you suffering and in pain, so he sent his angels to carry you away. Although you will be dearly missed in our hearts, we know you are filling heaven with all of your elegance and grace.
