She was a daughter of Lucius D. and Mary A. Davis, her father having come here in 1863 as pastor of the then First Methodist Episcopal Church. After several years in that position, and was for many years one of the proprietors and editor of the Newport Daily News. Miss Davis was for several years an editorial and special writer on the News, conducting "Seasonable Notes" which were popular with readers and attracted attention outside.
Shortly after the death of Mr. Davis in 1900, Miss Davis and her mother removed to New York and later to Germantown, where they made their home with a sister, Mrs. Fred Perry Powers. Miss Davis had been an invalid for several years and had come to Newport but infrequently. The body will be brought to Newport for interment in the family plot in the Island cemetery.
