Lawrence Albert Dittmar, 91, died Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Seward Memorial Hospital in Seward. Lawrence was born near Oconto, Sept. 22, 1920, to Albert and Anna (Schroeder) Dittmar.

Lawrence was baptized Oct. 17, 1920 at Christ Lutheran Church near Oconto. He was confirmed at Buffalo's First Evangelical Lutheran Church April 14, 1935.

Lawrence was in the Occupational Service in the Army and served as a Chaplains Assistant in Japan from 1946 to 1948.

Lawrence married Elva May Brown June 1, 1949 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leigh.

Lawrence and Elva had three children: David Lawrence, pastor in St. Louis, Mo.; Gary Dean, principal and teacher in Cleveland, Ohio; and Rhonda Rene' Stokebrand, social worker, Exeter.

Lawrence volunteered for more than 50 years in both Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts. He was awarded the highest volunteer award in both organizations the Silver Beaver, Boy Scouts and Thanks Badge in Girl Scouts.

Larence was a 25-year member of the Lions Club International was awarded the highest honor, Melvin Joyce Award.

Lawrence was preceded in death by: wife of 60 years, Elva Dittmar; parents, Albert and Anna Dittmar; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Merle Brown, Irene and Art Vercruysse, Ruby and Vic Schultze, Alan Christiansen, Dorothy Brown and Elaine Brown.

Survivors are: sons, David (Arlene) Dittmar, Gary (Emma) Dittmar; daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Stokebrand; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Alvin Dittmar, Lexington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin Brown, Columbia Heights, Minn., Howard Brown, Omaha, Harold and Joan Brown, Lexington, Gladys Christiansen, Madison, and Adeline Brown, Leigh and a host of relatives and friends.

Internment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Seward, NE.
