George Edward Nettleton was born Oct. 26, 1885 in Covington, Va. to Edward Manoah Nettleton and Mary Ann Blakeslee, both from Ohio.
On June 16, 1910, he married Willie Thomas Stratton in Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, W. Va. She was born there.
They had three children: Mary Anna Nettleton (born Dec. 29, 1913 in Lewisburg, W. Va. and died April 6, 2007); Jane Blakeslee Nettleton (born Jan. 30, 1918 in Coal Creek, Anderson County, Tenn. and died June 4, 1989); and Edward Manoah Nettleton II (born March 18, 1927 in Mineola, N.Y. and died July 18, 1998).
In 1917, George registered for the WWI draft in Anderson, TN where he was the General Manager for Black Diamond Coal in Coal Creek.
In the 1920 census, the family resided in Hempstead, Nassau County, N.Y. where he was a Building Contractor.
George Edward Nettleton passed away Nov. 16, 1950.
In the N.Y. Times Obituary section it listed the following in regards to George: "Beloved husband of Willie Stratton, devoted father of Mrs. Joseph A. Kershaw, Mrs. David Gerber, and Edward M. Nettleton. Service Fairfield Chapel, Franklin Ave. at 12th St., Garden City, Long Island, N.Y. on Friday, 8 P.M. Interment Covington, Va."
