Actor. Patric Knowles made his simultaneous British and American film debuts in "Give Me Your Heart" in 1936. Often co-starred with a British Warner Brothers Studio colleague, Errol Flynn, Knowles appeared in "The Adventures of Robin Hood" in 1938, "The Wolf Man" in 1941, and "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man" in 1943. Born Reginald Lawrence Knowles, he changed his name to honor his Irish heritage after running away from home at age 14 to become a stage actor. He rarely had the role of lead man but was a strong second lead. Knowles served in World War II as a flying instructor in the Royal Canadian Airforce. Known for his deep baritone voice and 6'2" statue, one of his last roles was a dignified military officer, such as Lord Mountbatten in the 1968 hit "The Devil's Brigade." In his last decades, Knowles continued accepting film offers, pioneering in 1951 in television character parts, writing his novel "Even Stephen," lecturing at colleges, and even being a guest in a Kellogg's cereal commercial. Knowles died of a brain hemorrhage. He has a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star for the category of television, which was awarded in 1960. He is credited with at least 80 films. He married and the couple had a son and a daughter.
