Thelma May Schwinne of Fort Oglethorpe died Sunday, Sept. 11. She was 78. She was a native of Detroit, Mich., where she lived for most of her life before moving to north Georgia in 1989. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in missions in Spokane, Wash. She was also a CNA and former Boy Scouts of America troop leader, and had a passion for genealogy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ada Stanton; husband, Harold Schwinne; son, Gary Schwinne; sister, Dorothy Matteson; granddaughter, Justine Avendt. Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Billy Joe Davis and Michelle and John Rose, all of Jasper, Tenn.; brother, Ralph Stanton of Mountain Home, Ark.; two sisters, Evelyn Jolly of Standish, Mich., Sherri Turner of Northville, Mich.; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Services: Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m., in the Fort Oglethorpe chapel. Burial: Lakewood Memory Gardens, South. Online guestbook at www.wilsonfuneralhome.com.
