Burl Youngblood, 80
MAYFIELD, Ky.
Services for former Graves County sheriff Burl Youngblood will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Byrn Funeral Home. Don Riley, Richard Youngblood and the Rev. Ray Clark will officiate. Burial will be in St. Jerome Church Cemetery.
Mr. Youngblood, 80, a resident of Mayfield, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday at Lourdes hospital,
Mr. Youngblood served as a deputy coroner for four years and also a deputy sheriff. He served as Graves County sheriff from 1974-78 and was then elected to two consecutive terms, 1982-90.
Mr. Youngblood was an organizer of the Kentucky Sheriffs Boys and Girls Ranch in Gilbertsville and was the recipient of the Kentucky Sheriff of the Year award.
He owned and operated Burl's Wrecker Service for 17 years and was a founding member of the Mayfield Graves County Rescue Squad, serving as chief and assistant chief.
He is survived by his wife, Dot Cash Youngblood; two sons, Jerry Youngblood and Roger Youngblood, both of Mayfield; two daughters, Janice Canter of Murray and Barbara Youngblood of Mayfield; two brothers, L.V. Youngblood and Carlos Youngblood, both of Mayfield; two sisters, Daisy Mason and Imogene Riley, both of Mayfield; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Youngblood was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. His parents were Edgar C, and Alma Crider Youngblood.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
