Lewis Buckman son of David Buckman and Betsey Bartlett of Alstead NH. Lewis worked in the paper making factory partly owned by his father. It is documented in these Excerpts from the town history of Alstead NH: (pub. 1990)

Page 82 Chapter-Paper Mill Village(that's Alstead today) William Blake built VT's first paper mill (Behind the gristmill still existing today) in Bellows Falls in 1802. In 1800 Kingsbury sold two more quarter shares in his mill to Isaac Randall and David Buckman. The Buckmans lived in ALstead and continued to work in the mill, for Sally Loomis's letters mention a son, Lewis, and daughter, Betsy, who were employed there during the 1830s. "old Mr. Buckman" died in the fall of 1837, according to Loomis. On August 20, 1804 WIlliam BLake purchased Kingsbury's remaining share in the mill etc etc Further down on the same page During their period of ownership, 1807 through 1817, Alstead's mill was operated by local manufacturers, such as the Buckmans, while its proprietors managed their investments from a distance.

page 88 same chapter The two most skilled tasks were those of vatman or papermaker, and engineer, meaning the man who tended the Hollander beater. "Lewis Buckman stays at the papermill and is learning to make paper", meaning to work at the vat, Sally Loomis wrote in 1829. The son of David Buckman, who had purchased a quarter share in the mill in 1800, Lewis was acquiring his father's trade.
