Seventh U.S. Cavalry. Battle of the Little Big Horn. Enlisted from August 1864 to June 1865, in the 20th Independent Battery, New York Light Artillery. Enlisted 2nd Infantry from Sept. 30, 1865 to Sept. 30, 1868. Transferred 1st Cavalry in July 5, 1871. Discharge on Oct. 19, 1871.
Enlisted 7th Cavalry Jan. 18, 1872 in Cincinnati, Ohio by Lt. Myles Moylan. Gray eyes, black hair, florid complexion 5' 10 1/2" tall. Joined regiment in Unionville, SC on Feb. 5, 1872.Black Hills Expedition 1874.
Battle of the Little Big Horn June 25, 1876. Kimm, Co. E, with the pack train and the fight on Reno Hill. Helped bury the dead on Custer battlefield. Discharged Ft. Lincoln Jan. 18, 1877 as private of good character. Died Soldiers Home Johnson City. Also listed as John O. Kimm and John Q. Kimm.
