Birth: Sep. 18, 1875
Death: Oct. 17, 1964

Mrs. Helen E. Myers passed away Saturday morning, October 17, after a long illness. Helen E. Athey was born September 18, 1875 in Holton, the daughter of William and Sarah Athey, who were pioneer residents of Holton. Both parents came from London, England and settled in Holton in 1869. Her entire life was spent in Holton. In her earlier years she clerked in the old Sarbach Store on the west side of the square. Later she was bookkeeper for Saunders Auto Company, in the building nor occupied by the Ford Motor company, living in the home of her parents and caring for them in their old age. After the death of both her mother and father, she was married to the late Clarence E. Myers on June 8, 1931 by John Warren Day, Dean of Grace Cathedral at that time. Her husband preceded her in death on October 13, 1935.
For the past seventeen years, Mrs. Leila Beach has made her home with Mrs. Myers, caring for her, until September 1, 1964, when her own health would not permit her to stay on, at which time Mrs. Myers went to live in the Valley View Nursing Home in Valley Falls, where she lived until her death. Mrs. Myers was a member of the St. Thomas Episcopal church and took an active part in her church as long as her health would permit. She leaves to mourn her loss: three sisters, Mrs. Clara Coldren, Topeka; Mrs. Grace Rufle, Wichita and Mrs Maud Ibbison of Denver, Colorado; four nieces, Mrs. Harold Rolley of Holton, Mrs. Harland Wolverton of Topeka, Mrs. Joseph Boyle of San Francisco and Mrs Russell Williams of Denver; three nephews, Robert Rufle, of Omaha, Nebraska; Edwin Rufle, of Wichita and Hubert Ibbison of Denver, Colorado; and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Mercer Funeral home, Monday afternoon, October 19, 1964, conducted by Rev. Allen Hancock, Rector of St. Thomas Episcopal church of Holton. Pall bearers were: Alan Rolley, Don Rolley, Harold Fairchild, Otto Jacobs, Burton Smith and Al Hann. Burial was made in the Holton cemetery
