Graydon F. "Red" Kinney (1923-2012)

The Biggest Red Sox fan in the state of Maine, Graydon F. Kinney "Red," 88, of Madrid, passed away peacefully at Franklin Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, March 27.
He was born on Nov. 1, 1923, in Auburn, the son of Charles E. and Ella Mae (Huntington) Kinney.
He was employed most of his life and retired from Pratt & Whitney in Hartford and Middletown. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Viola (Louise) Perham. They were married almost 46 years and raised their four children in Cromwell. Louise predeceased him on Nov. 8, 1994.
"Red" had many hobbies and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and puttering in the garage. He had an extra particular green thumb when growing gladiolas and lupine. He had a special place in his heart for his cats: Snowball, Mittens and Big Foot. "Red" enjoyed his weekly ritual of cribbage at the Legion Hall in Phillips with many beloved friends.
"Red" is survived by his two sons: David Kinney, of Madrid, Brian Kinney and his wife, Maureen, of Cromwell; two daughters: Sandra Tallman and her husband, Lucius, of New Milton, W.Va. and his baby, Kathleen Tripp, of Madrid; eight grandchildren: Lucius, Tommy, Tammie, Brian, Keith "Bub", David, Eric, Raymond and 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Kathy, Tommie, Sue and Bub for all of the years of love and support to allow "Red" to live independently at home.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., (Routes 2 and 27) Farmington, Saturday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. Public memorial graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 3 at 11 a.m. at the Dunham Cemetery, Madrid.
