One by One They Are Gathered Home.
Sidney S. Britton answered the final summons Sunday evening about seven o'clock after an illness of a few days pronounced by his physicians to be Bright's disease. Death came peacefully. Mr. Britton was taken sick Wednesday morning and continued to grow worse. Four doctors were in attendence ans were faithful but to no effect.
Sidney S. Britton was norn January 26, 1846, in Indiana, and was married in 1868 to Miss Elizabeth Wood. Four children came to bless this union- Frank and Burr, of Hollister; Freeland, of Aline, and Willard, of White Oak. Mrs. Britton died in 1880. Mr. Britton was married again in 1881 to Miss Sarah L. Brenton. To this unition seven children were born- three boys and four girls: Orvil, Simon, Dude, Bessie, Yutha, Lura and Lenora, all living and all with their father when the end came, except Freeland and Willard.
Mr. Britton was aged 66 years, two months and three days. He made a profession of faith in Jesus at the age of 16, and united with the church. This was the beginning of a Christian life of 50 years. This was a life abiding faith in God and fellowship with his people in love and service in his home. He opened the way for him to abide until he must depart. His home was one of happiness. He was a loving husband, a kind father and generous welcome was given to his friends who came into the home.
Mr. Britton was one of the first to settle on his farm in the Big Pasture opening, and with his family had resided here since.
Funeral services were conducted at the family residence Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. Daugherty, of the Methodist Episcopal church, north, in the presence of a large assembly of relatives and friends. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery south of Hollister. The many friends of the bereaved wife and children offer their deepest sympathy in their sorrow.
Mr. Britton was an honored member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Hollister, and services at the grave were conducted by members of the lodge.
We pray that those who still live on earth may live forever with God and him; then "They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun strike upon them nor any heat; for Lamb which is in the nidst of the throne shall be thy shepherd and shall guide thee unto fountains of water of life; and God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes."
(On same page: Mrs. S. S. Britton, who has been sick since last fall from nervous prostration, is resting very well. She has the sympathy of all in this hour of bereavement.)
