Hattie came to America in 1840 with her parents Bernhard Merkel and Brigitte Stemmle. She was the wife of Joseph Weidekamp (1846) and John Baptist Emig (1855), and was the mother of Andrew and Joseph Weidekamp, and of Anna Maria Dearing Pfalzer, Emily Nold, John Baptist Emig and August Valentine Emig. She was also the mother of John Merkel.
