John McPhee was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada 25 Jul 1831, came to the United States and became a citizen in the 1850s. He was married to Lucy M Merrill and had six children with her, Anna Marie, John Edward, Eddy T, Lucy, Ida, and Alice all by 1863. He was captured at Gettysburg in July 1863, released, and was with the Union Army during the battle of Five Forks, Virginia in April of 1865. He was killed at Five Forks, 1 April 1865, seven days before the Civil War ended.
