Born in Branch County, Michigan, on March 1, 1919, she was the daughter of Elva A. (Edwards) and John W. Richard.
Mrs. Hays had retired in 1976 after 20 years of service with the Spangler Candy Co. of Bryan, and had attended the Christian Union Church in Cooney.
She was married to James A. Hays on April 23, 1939, and he survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Kay Barrett of Rossford; a son, Steven S. of RFD1, Montpelier; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Pike of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Mrs. Emil (Ruby) Huber of Holiday, Florida; two brothers, Robert of Camden, Michigan and Rex of Beaufort, South Carolina and five grandchildren; Bret and Kris Barrett and Sharla, Brian, and Jodi Hays.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Miss Dorothy Richard; and two brothers, Howard and Paul.
Services are scheduled for 11am Wednesday at the Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier, with the Rev. Nelson Cairl and the Rev. Jack Teeple officiating. Burial is to be in Riverside Cemetery.
The family is to receive friends from 7-9 pm Monday and 2-4pm and 7-9pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Gideon International.
