Isabella Mary Duling was born on May 17, 1857 in Maryland to Davis Kennison Duling and Isabella E. Riley Duling. Her mother died when Isabella was only three weeks old. Her father was unable to care for her, so Isabella was raised by her grandparents, George and Margaret Brandt Riley. She married Samuel Granville Steyer on September 21, 1879 in Garrett County, Maryland. They had eight children in eighteen years. Isabella Duling Steyer died on May 12, 1897 just five days from her thirtieth birthday.
